Wonderful Idea
This forum is such a great idea but sadly, I don't see much traffic. I would love to contribute to this message board and meet other adult students to share experiences with.
I am a 39 year old woman starting college this May to work towards a bachelor's degree in Human Development. I am a bit nervous but excited. I hope to see more people join and post this online community .

I just registered and will check back frequently. I went back to college five years ago at age 38. I will finish up my Bachelor's degree next fall! All best wishes, Leah |

RE: Wonderful Idea
That is often a problem with forums that people simply do not check back in or move on. I am currently researching my option to going back to school. I am 45 and have worked in 2 professions so far. Completing my bachelor degree will open up further options. I am excited but also worried having to manage family, work, the current economy and learning.

RE: Wonderful Idea
Thanks for the Social idea! We do have a basic listing on Facebook (under Practical Psychology Press), but should definitely make sure our forum and the Adult Student's Guide are both highlighted there.
Another issue we face is monitoring and moderating. An inherent hurdle we have is our name. "AdultStudent.com." It may (and does) attract spam postings of the ... let's just say... less "family-friendly" sort, about which we need to be careful. Because of this, our forum is tightly moderated, does not accept anonymous postings, and deletes suspect users regularly. Additionally, we haven't figured out how to have our forum automatically alert the moderators to a new post, say, via email. (If anyone using MyBB has a solution to this, I'd LOVE to know!) And, yes, there is the group of "one-off" folks who join, visit once or twice and move on. That's OK! The very nature of adult students is transitory, but the topics aren't so much. The questions they pose, and answers others relate are beneficial to anyone who visits afterward. Thanks all for your input!

RE: Wonderful Idea
I found the site by accident. I was researching a project for a course I'm taking and on page 6 of the results this site popped up.
As for email alerts, check out http://community.mybb.com/ for answers on how to accomplish this. I know how it is done in SMF and phbb, but not familiar with mybb. |

greetings M. hope you come back soon. I just joined today. For some time now, I have been tryig to discern what is going on in todays' college classrooms? I believe anyone teaching in an academic enviornmet such as a collge or university should have quality teacher training and expereince (3 to 5 years), and possibly be certified to teach!

RE: Wonderful Idea
:huh:greetings. how are you? Actually it is about being as stress free as possible. Presently, I am in academic withdrawal. I just completed a semester at a four year college. As usual I felt like someone
had beat me with a stick! Being a trained and expereiced ECE and Elementary education teacher, I find that may of the instructors and professors in today's classrooms are possibly incompetent. Colleges are bascially businesses. Many professors, instructors, falcuty and staff become annoyed when they are reminded that students are really custormers? hope you enjoy your holiday vacation!
