Does being married penalize the adult student from recieving aid?
My wife's income is preventing me from being eligible for subsidized financial aid. We certainly don't make enough to support a full time college student and I wish to avoid burdening her with my college debt to whatever extent I can. We are actually considering divorce as an option to avoid being judged by our "household income." Would this be to my advantage? Are there any other options we could pursue? It doesn't seem unreasonable if it means the difference between $10,00 in debt instead of $30,000. I'm only 27, we aren't wealthy, and we really aren't trying to game the system. We are just looking for a plausible scenario for me to finish my education.
